Over the past decade, syphilis rates and case numbers in the U.S. have increased across all populations. In response to this surge in syphilis cases, HHS formed the the National Syphilis and Congenital Syphilis Syndemic Federal Task Force led by HHS Assistant Secretary for Health Admiral Rachel Levine. The task force leverages federal resources to address surging syphilis and congenital syphilis rates.

As part of this effort, we are announcing the Considerations for Using & Implementing Syphilis Point of Care Tests webinar. This webinar will take place on Wednesday, July 31, from 12:00 p.m.-1:00 p.m. EDT and will include a discussion of a new HHS resource on point of care testing for syphilis (PDF, 552KB).

Point of care tests offer quick diagnosis and treatment during the same visit. Syphilis infection can be difficult to diagnose. People are often asymptomatic, which makes screening a crucial step in diagnosis. In this webinar, participants will also hear about best practices and key findings from a clinician currently using point of care tests to diagnose syphilis.

This webinar is part of “Stopping Syphilis: The HHS Summer Seminar Series” hosted by the Office of Infectious Disease and HIV/AIDS Policy, HHS.
